Foundroot has partnered with Topiku, an Indonesian company on a mission to make the most sustainable hats on the planet. Read below for all the details.

We made hats! Finally, you can rep Foundroot in style.

This is our everyday hat throughout the farm season. Its soft, comfortable, keeps the sun out of our eyes, looks really good worn in... like really worn in. This is Leah's favorite hat.

These have the Foundroot Leaf Logo embroidered on the front, "Foundroot" embroidered on the side, and say "Cultivate Resilience  |  Haines, Alaska" on the back.

ABOUT OUR HATS

Friends, we have to be honest, we tortured ourselves over these. It is really difficult to find ethical and affordably made hats when you aren't buying them by the thousands. We are so excited to have partnered with Topiku in Indonesia to bring you these ridiculously awesome hats. Ready?

  • The brims are recycled HDPE plastic salvaged from already trashed buckets.
  • The fabric is 100% GOTS certified organic cotton from deadstock from a curtain manufacturer in Solo, Java (aka overstock, rejects, scraps).
  • The rivets are made from discarded soda cans.
  • The leather is made from scraps from the leather industry in Cibaduyut, using only remnants from shoes, belts, jackets, purses, etc.
  • They work with the community of Desa Rahayu in Cigondewah, West Java to support the home industry and tradition of tailors there. They offer equitable employment and a fair reliable living wage to both men and women, allowing families to stay together rather than having to leave the community to work.
  • They have calculated the exact carbon footprint of each of their hats and purchase certified carbon offsets for the remainder.
  • They are a member of 1% for the planet and climate neutral certified.

Indonesia is the world’s second largest ocean polluter. The capital of Jakarta produces a staggering 7000 tons (28.5% plastic) of waste each day. Of the collected trash, only 7.5% (2% in rural regions) gets recycled. Currently, Indonesia does not have the proper resources to tackle this growing waste epidemic but Topiku is doing its part to help. We are so stoked to be supporting this effort.
