Solanum lycopersicum
25 Seeds
Maturity: 60 days from transplant
Determinate

Grown by Foundroot in Haines, Alaska using regenerative agriculture practices.

Developed by the University of Idaho for northern growers in the 1950's, Ida Gold is often the first to ripen of all the early tomatoes.  Two-bite sized round golden fruit reach 1-2.5" on determinate 3' plants laden with fruit. Best for fresh slicing, Ida Gold has sharp and tangy flavor but is meaty enough to cook down for sauces if your paste tomatoes don't quite make it in time.

Tomatoes are a challenging crop in the north and require warmth and extra care to reach maturity.

FROM THE FARMERS

We didn't have a super strong opinion about Ida Gold until the dreary, wet, cold summer of 2020. She was fast, first, bountiful, and tasty. This lady proved herself to be the true champion of Alaskan gardener dreams when all our other tomatoes struggled. She is consistently our first to ripen and loaded with heavy fruit that can get out of the garden before the weather turns. Not super sweet but the bright tangy flavor has become a staple for us in marinara sauce and curries. Meant to be a fresh slicer, Ida Gold is meaty enough for tomato-starved northern gardeners use for canning and freezing.
