Solanum lycopersicum
25 Seeds
Maturity: 70 days from transplant
Indeterminate

Dedicated to the Open Source Seed Initiative to keep seeds in the public commons.

Rachel and Tevis Robertson-Goldberg of Crabapple Farm in Chesterfield, MA did the hard work of breeding out Honeydrop so we can have an open-pollinated cherry tomato that trumps the best hybrids. Once hit by the midsummer heat, Honeydrop has a complex and a full-bodied flavor with notes of white grapes, true honey, and a hint of sharpness of a proper homegrown tomato. Beautiful gold and salmon colored .5-1" cherry tomatoes grown on vigorous indeterminate vines. Stake well, best grown in a hoop house or under some covering for prolific plants.

Tomatoes are a challenging crop in the north and require warmth and extra care to reach maturity.

FROM THE FARMERS

If you like Sungold but want to move away from hybrid and patented seed, these are your tomato. They require a bit more attention and will have some variation but the incredible flavor blows us away. The white grapes of the north? The fine white wine of tomatoes? We grew her in our hoop house and recommend other Alaskans do too. The vines reached the top of our small hoop at 12 feet high and then started climbing back down. Honeydrop does not thrive in a cool, wet summer and won’t be a surefire bet in many parts of the north. They need protection and attention but darn, they are worth it. Hands down the sweetest, tastiest tomato we have grown.
