Opinel has set the gold standard for high quality knives since the family company designed their first folding knife in 1892. All of their products are still entirely manufactured in the heart of the Alps in their factory in Chambéry, France.
These have become a necessity on the Foundroot farm since we were gifted them by a dear friend a few years ago. The only pruners that don't hurt our wrists after a full day of use. They are lighter because of the beechwood handles and the spring is firm enough to do the work but loose enough to not have to strain our hands. We harvest all our dahlias with these and they can handle the annual berry pruning.
The three-position shears are made with two sizes to fit the diameter of the branches and size of the hand with the third position locking closed for safety. A protected spring prevents dirt from entering the mechanism and eliminates the chance of pinching.
The anti-corrosive stainless steel requires no special maintenance and is optimized to reduce cutting force with a 20 mm (over 3/4 inch) capacity for small branches, thick flower stalks, or pruning berry bushes.
The lightweight varnished beechwood handle is strong and durable, made from sustainably managed French forests, and rounded to fit every hand. The other handle and locking mechanism is a non-slip polyamide with an ergonomically curved handle to provide all-day comfort.
We recommend regular sharpening with this specially rounded stone to maintain a good cut.
