Cucurbita pepo
25 seeds
Maturity: 110 days

Baby Pam is considered a classic pie pumpkin and is known for its uniform size and ability to ripen the majority of fruit on the vine, even in poor conditions. Fruit is round and orange, with stringless smooth bright orange flesh that sweet and tasty, excellent for culinary use. Other folks claim that the fruits average 3–4 lbs but in our trial our smallest fruit was 4.75 which was nearly half the weight of the majority of fruit that was very consistent, averaging 7.9 lbs, our largest reaching 8.26 lbs.

Baby Pam plants are massive and sprawling and did not have high yields per plant in our northern conditions, only averaging 1-2 fruit per plant. We recommend them only if you have a good amount of space for them to crawl into and the ability to protect them. Still a trial variety.

Open-pollinated pumpkin needs to be hand pollinated if grown without insects present such as inside a hoop house or greenhouse.

FROM THE FARMERS

WE GREW PUMPKINS! Ok, to be fair, we did a lot of research and picked Baby Pam because it is a dwarf variety known for producing in challenging conditions and we threw the seeds in the hoop house without any expectations. We didn't, however, trial it against any other pumpkins. We will be doing that this year.

BUT we did grow great big beautiful pumpkins and they are so sweet and tasty and made mind blowing pumpkin pie. They are also still happily sitting on a shelf in our kitchen in January as we write this. Only trialed once, in a warm (60-80°F) but short season in Haines, AK.
