Grown by Farragut Farm in a remote, roadless bay about 25 miles north of Petersburg in Southeast Alaska. They are uncertified organic, caring for and improving the soil everyday.  This seed is many years in the making and we are so proud to offer such an exceptional product from the best of Alaskan growers.

Known for being one of the best tasting garlics in the Porcelain family, Georgian Crystal is hands down Farragut Farm's most popular variety with customers. Originally from the Gatersleben Seed Bank, it is also known as Cichisdzhvari. It grows well in most climates and has a clean, white appearance with beautiful fat cloves that can produce exceptionally large heads. Georgian Crystal is very spicy raw but has a great buttery flavor when cooked. Consistently good yields and excellent long-term storage makes this Farragut Farms' favorite variety for commercial production. It's possible to have garlic year-round with this variety.

Porcelain garlic is the largest of the garlic plants with the highest amount of Allicin for health benefit. They are typically very cold hardy with very large cloves.

Sold by the 1/2 pound. Seed garlic is a clone of the parent plant. You will receive what you see pictured. An average of 4 cloves per bulb, 8-10 bulbs per pound. If well grown, Farragut Farm's strain frequently produces heads with 5-9 cloves which is more cloves per bulb than is typical for Georgian Crystal. Approximately 32-90 plants per pound. If planting 6" apart in a grid pattern, approximately 50 plants will fill a 4 x 4' bed.

FROM THE GROWERS

This is the only Farragut Farm garlic seed that we carry that isn't propagated from bulbils but is rather traditionally cloned from the parent plant. Not all varieties lend themselves to successful bulbil production. Georgian Crystal is an absolute customer favorite and Bo and Marja have been breeding it on their farm for over 20 years. Deeply acclimatized and equally high quality to the other seed stock they are growing.

Please plant in your best soil and provide adequate space of at least 6" between your garlic plants. 8" is even better. Garlic is a heavy feeder and you will get much larger bulbs if you provide your garlic with lots of growing room and really nice soil.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Keep your garlic at room temperature in a well aerated place until it is time to plant. Do not store garlic in the refrigerator. Keep bulbs whole until just before planting.

Sow in the fall just after the first or second light frost of the season. Plant into nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Waterlogged soil will cause rot.

Place the end where the cloves was attached to the bulb down 2-3" deep . Mulch with 1-3" of leaves, straw, seaweed, etc to keep soil insulated until spring.
