Maturity: 65 days
Bred and released by Rogers Brothers Seed Co of Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1966, these wrinkled dark green pods have become a garden staple. A shelling pea, the peas are exceptionally sweet, one of the easiest varieties to shell, and incredibly prolific. Make room in your freezer, Early Frosty can exceed 30 lb/100 ft, nearly twice the yield of other varieties. 4-5' vines require staking in Alaska yielding 3.5" pods with 6-8 peas/pod. Eat or freeze within 3 days of harvest for best flavor.
From the Farmers
*Favorite* of Leah. Don't like shelling peas? Good, more for us. These are the sweetest vegetables we grow, rivaling our cherry tomatoes, but, you know, with pea flavor. They are delicious and are not like any pea you've ever purchased canned or frozen. These are why we grow our own food--you'll never find the same thing at the grocery store. Whatever actually makes it out of the field is exceptional for stocking the freezer. Plants pay their rent with extremely high yields. It takes a few taste tests to figure out the perfect harvest size but once you do, you won't be disappointed. Don't let them sit, they get starchy, and are best eaten or frozen soon after harvest. A true subsistence crop. Third generation seed crop from our farm.
